Dr Silviu Ionescu, the former Romanian embassy charge d’affaires has been identified by eyewitness testimony in the coroner’s inquiry as the driver of the black Audi car which struck three pedestrians along Bukit Panjang Road in December last year.
The witness, Mr Mohamed Noor Hussain, told the coroner’s inquiry that he was at a nearby coffeeshop when he heard loud engine sounds coming from Bukit Panjang Road towards Choa Chu Kang Road. He then saw a black Audi car travelling at some speed hit two pedestrians at a junction at Bukit Panjang Road, but the driver of the car did not stop to render assistance. According to Mr Mohamad, the traffic signal was in favour of the two pedestrians at the time of the accident.
Seeing this, Mr Mohamed Noor said that he got up and dashed towards the car in an attempt to stop it, but the car moved towards him and he had to jump on the road divider, causing him to fall and injure this leg. According to Mr Mohamed Noor, the driver reduced the speed of the vehicle, wound down the window and scolded him. He was able to note that the driver was a man of fair complexion and there was no other person in the vehicle.
Mr Mohamed Noor was shown a photograph of Dr Ionescu and identified him as the driver of the black Audi.
