azabu sabo tea time treat

Tubed into town a fortnight ago to attend a course on computer forensics and didn’t manage to squeeze in dessert during lunch hour. So headed back to satisfy our craving for sweet around tea time. There was some promotion at Azabu Sabo on their mini fried sweet potato balls so we gave it a try.

F had them with chocolate ice-cream and chocolate sauce (left pic); I had mine with vanilla bean ice-cream and butter sauce (right pic).

Overall, I felt that the butter sauce gave the chewy dough a bit of zing, bringing out its savoury-ness and contrasting nicely with the cold milky-ness of the vanilla ice-cream. And if I may say so, it was very good vanilla. Not the old-fashioned vanilla with the yellow-ish hue, but delicate and flavourful, dotted with (what I can only surmise to be) vanilla bean bits.
