book search

2 January, 2008 § Leave a comment

took a short stroll to the local library during lunch hour hoping to find a book about Brahms and two novellas from the Canongate Myth series, but these two ended up going home with me instead:

Miss Garnet’s Angel by Salley Vickers and Hotel World by Ali Smith

am attempting to read the latter for a second time. my first attempt was a badly-timed haphazard skim that didn’t quite allow the writing to leave any impression on me. this book of ali smith’s seems to have left mixed impressions … but think i’ll let the book speak to me for itself.

i seem to have a soft spot for women writers – a. s. byatt, jeanette winterson and sarah waters being some of the few whose writing touches something inside of me. let’s see if vickers and smith have the same magic.

oh, and i stumbled onto a lovely blog about books. i think i shall be visiting it quite often indeed.
