first movement

i seem to fall in love with the first movement of pieces:

• 1st movement of shostakovich’s fifth symphony;
• 1st movement of brahms’s fourth symphony;
• 1st movement of sibelius’s second symphony;
• 1st movement of dvorak’s eight symphony;

and now tchaikovsky’s fourth symphony. it’s the melancholy perhaps. the two things that struck me whilst listening to the tchaikovsky by eugene ormandy and the philadelphia orchestra – lushness and balance. together a simply gorgeous concoction.
